Airbrushing is a way of painting using a brush that sprays the paint onto the paper of other surface. Usually the air comes from a compressor. What you need to get started:

It's great if you can draw, but it's not absolutely necessary. Most people think of airbrush as a way of painting very detailed and realistic art with a very precise and expensive airbrush using only a small amount of paint. There is another amazing way to do airbrush painting using the techniques of spray paint art. Using these tips it is possible to paint much more quickly and to improvise freely instead of worrying about tiny details. The paint itself creates the intricate textures and images when you know how to use these new tips of airbrush that I'm about to tell you about.

Previously when we mentioned paintings create with airbrush, the pictures of people who know a lot about drawing detailed and intricate figures and landscapes came to our mind. Many people feel they would need to know how to draw well to be able to really learn how to airbrush well. But nothing can be further from the truth. There are numerous ways to use an airbrush to create amazinly detailed scenes in minutes without having to know how to draw at all. You can do it by spraying the paint with a cheap airbrush that allows you to change colors quickly but has the same sort of spray as a can. Using an airbrush like this one lets you utilize all the techniques of spray paint art. I'll give you some airbrushing tips which will make it clearer.

Tips On Airbrushing-

For using an airbrush like a spray can, the first thing is to be able to change your colors quickly. There are cheap airbrushes available that are called quick change brushes that are perfect for this kind of paintings. These are usually quite inexpensive. The important thing is that in these brushes, the paint does not actually enter the airbrush itself. It is sucked up by the brush and then propelled from a tiny nozzle. This allows you to change colors without having to clean the brush each time. This is necessary for simulating spray paint art techniques and creating the detail that we want to achieve. We do not need the spray of the brush to be tiny, like in regular airbrushing. And it's important that this brush apply more paint than a regular airbrush since we are going to work with it after it's applied. Speaking about the paints, it's very important that they be prepared properly to create the effects we desire.

Airbrushing Ideas To Choose Right Kind of Paints

It's important to purchase the right paints for this style of airbrush painting. We can use many more kinds of paint than regular airbrush artists because our paint will never actually enter our airbrush. Regular expensive airbrushes can be damaged by paint that is not intended for airbrushing and by mixing the paint with weird stuff. We are free of those concerns because our brush does not actually enter the brush and our brushes are so cheap that it wouldn't matter if it did!

You can work with regular artist quality acrylics or regular airbrush paint as your main paint. We are talking about the kind of paint that comes in a tube. These paints have a larger cuantity of pigments in them and thus the color will be deeper and more lush. They tend to have a transparent quality as well, so it's important to allow for this especially when you are working with a lot of dark color. They can disappear when layered above a darker color. Regular airbrush paints such as createx or liquitex work quite well for these techniques as well. You can also use student grade acrylics and hobby paints. Make sure that these are not your only paints though and that your main paints are artist quality.

How to mix paints for spray paint style with airbrush

To mix the paints you will have a choice. You can mix them with glass cleaner such as windex or windolene, water, and/or airbrush medium. All of these will produce different results. I prefer to mix them only with glass cleaner as that gives the result closest to spray paint art which is what I am accustomed to. But some people cannot find the glass cleaner that will work or want to avoid cleaning products for whatever reason and may want to mix their paints with a bit of water and airbrush medium only. The important thing is that you are able to layer the paints when spraying on a sheet of posterboard and not see little imperfections such as bubbles and dots appearing. You should have a uniform appearance. None of these airbrushing tips will work if your paint is mixed incorrectly. Keep trying until you find a mix that allows you to create even coats of color on posterboard.

Once you have your brush and your colors you are ready to try these tricks based on spray paint art techniques. The classic paper used for these techniques is poster board and it works great with the acrylic version as well. You can also use these airbrushing tips on prepared canvas, bristol, airbrush paper and other papers when they are properly prepared.
